3 Museums in Seoul To Learn About Korea
If you love Korea a lot like me, you may want to learn a bit about the History of Korea, about the King, the history, the wars that occurred in the Silla dynasty, Baekje dynasty or even the Joseon dynasty. Though, you may find loads of Joseon dynasty history around in Seoul. So, here are some museums that you may want to take a look at during your trip.
1. National Museum of Korea
This museum is located not too far from Yongsan Station and it’s the largest museum in Korea. Not only it houses precious Korean cultural assets from the ancient times, it also houses the assets of modern times that tells the fascinating story of Korea.
The National Museum of Korea has a wide array of national and international artifacts, and also plays the role of staging a number of cultural activities related to collection, preservation, research and analysis, academic publications, intercultural exchange programs, etc.
Visitors also has the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational and cultural events. And if you are a person who prefers to tour at your own pace, it definitely have many spots where you can sit and rest when you get tired after a long walk.
2. War Memorial of Korea
Also located in the Yongsan area, the War Memorial of Korea preserves and display materials related to the Korean War. This museum was established in order to commemorate the sacrifices of patriotic martyrs.
The museum houses approximately 33,000 artifacts, though only about 10,000 is on display at the exhibition halls. There are six different indoor halls, which is the Expeditionary Forces Room, Patriotic Memorial Room, War History Room, 6·25 Korean War Room, Development Hall and Large Machinery Room. While the outdoor hall displays the large-sized weapons used during the wars.
Visitors are welcome to participate in the many different educational programs such as military music and honor guard events, cultural event and more.
3. King Sejong Story
If you have not know, King Sejong, the 4th king of the Joseon Dynasty was responsible for some of the great achievements in the history of Korea, including creating of the Korean alphabet, Hangeul. Not only that, King Sejong also made huge advancements in the areas of science, culture, art and politics.
This museum is located behind the Statue of King Sejong in Gwanghwamun Square. Yes, it’s beneath the statue and here it shows some of the king’s most astounding contributions to the development of Korea as a nation.
Throughout the museum, you will be able to see the achievements of King Sejong’s such as the invention of Hangeul, and his scientific, artistic, military, and political contributions.
