Itaewon Global Village Festival 2016
Every Autumn, A major festival is held in Itaewon kicks off with the aim to unite all communities over the weekend. Locals as well as visitors to get a taste of what foreigners eat in their homelands! This year the event will be held over a span of two days which is held this week on the 15th and the 16th October. That should be more than enough time to try the foods you wanna try and dance the dance you wanna dance.
Itaewon is the only area in Seoul really where even the locals will temporarily think that they are not in Korea because of the huge amount of foreigners buzzing by around them. Sure there is areas in Seoul with a high amount of Foreigners in them but they still are nothing compared to Itaewon and its nearby areas. Not only it is filled mostly with international visitors, this is the place where you can actually get clothing that is larger than the local Korean sizes, as well as for people with huge feet, like me, so if you ever have difficulty getting clothes or shoes in Korea, then Itaewon is your go to stop for all your needs! Itaewon is also home to some of the most popular restaurants in Seoul.
During the festival, the roads are closed and pedestrians will take over the road for the weekend. Thus, you can roam freely from stall to stall though there might be the random delivery bike trying to squeeze through. Various kinds of food from different countries are beckoning you. Remember to choose smartly and fill it with those international delicacies! There might be some that are too spicy or too different for you and you maybe not wanna risk burning your tongue and getting an upset stomach. Better to eat food that makes you happy, like for example pizza!
Apart from the mouthwatering food that will take most of your time and attention, visitors can also experience many kinds of culture and art from all over the world, you can have such experiences like Henna, face painting and sand art etc. Other maybe a taekwondo exhibition or a military march.
There is great variety to be enjoyed If you are planning to get some souvenirs, here might offer you some alternative gift options. People from around the world will be selling stuff from their home countries and put it up for sale in their stalls. How about give your friends a nice surprise by getting them some gifts from Greece or some other country? Just let them know you are thinking of them and show them that you are a such a great friend.
To get to this festival, you can get there by subway line 6, either get off at Noksapyeong Station or Itaewon station and basically follow the crowds to the hottest party in town this weekend. So get off your ass this weekend, go out and explore the world on the main street in Itaewon, taste everything, be everywhere and let the mood of the party take you over.
