Samcheong-dong

Samcheong-dong is a very pleasant and nice area in Seoul.

It is located between two palaces, the Gyeongbokgung and the Changdeokgung. Besides, it is right next to the also very interesting and traditional neighborhood Insadong.

“Sam” means tree and “cheong” means clean, good. The name is related to what the place brings: clean water, beauty surrounded by mountains and residents.

I really like this area for being nice to take a walk, with cozy and delicious coffee shops, nice restaurants and interesting shops.

One of the very famous things in Samcheong-dong is the “Samcheong-dong Sujebi” Restaurant. Sujebi is a soup made of vegetables, seafood, potato and pieces of dough. A few years ago, the place extended its size. Still, if you go there in rush hour, you will probably find a line to stand.

The website for the restaurant is:  http://www.sujaebi.kr/ .

There are some coffee shops that has a terrace area, where you can enjoy a nice view of the area along with the mountains in the back.

If you go down the alley from Samcheon-dong-gil toward Anguk Station, you will also find a nice path with lots of interesting things on the way, as well as street musicians, art in the walls and more of coffee shops, tea houses, shops and restaurants.

Samcheong-dong is also well known for its Bukchon Hanok (Korean traditional houses) Village.

You can also find some art galleries and feel a little of the tradition that is still alive in South Korea. It can be nice to go around by yourself or have tea with a friend, but it is also definitely a romantic spot to just be with someone, as if you were inside a beautiful movie set.

To get there, you can either go to Anguk Station (Subway Line 3) and get off at Exit 1 towards Jeongdok Library (turn right and then right again) or go to Gyongbokgung Station (Subway Line 3) and get off at Exit 5, walk towards Gyeongbokgung Intersection.
