Get into the depths of Danyang Ondal Cave
Under Seongsan Mountain, lies the Danyang Ondal cave. On the same mountain lies Ondalsalseong Fortress, which dates back to the Goguryeo Era.
The cave is made from natural limestone, and is estimated to have formed 450 million years ago. the cave is a total 760 meters long, while being 5-10 meters high and 5 meters wide. Though the cave mouth is a mere 2 meters. The cave also features a river running along the cave floor, the river flows into 20 small ponds along the cave.
The cave features a manmade pathway, that runs through the cave. Along the pathway you can see many animals and insects, that has made the cave their home for million of years.
The cave is open year round, with the average temperature during the summer being 14 degrees celsius, while the average temperature during the winter is a bit warmer at 16 degrees celsius.
Admission for the cave is 5,000 for adults. Opening hours during the summer is 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. While Winter the cave is open from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.
How to get there:
Take an intercity bus from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, bound for Guinsa Temple (구인사).
Get off at Yeongchun (영춘), and take a local bus or a taxi to Ondal Resort. (5-10min)
