4 Famous Beaches in Korea for Summer Vacation

June to September is literally summer season in Korea, though it will rain quite a lot during summer, however, don’t let that stop you from enjoying some sunbathing time! Here are some popular beaches in Korea that you should pay a visit to.

1. Haeundae Beach, Busan

Heaundae Beach is approximately 1.5 km long and 30-50m wide, it’s Korea’s most famous beach. The sand of this beach is composed of shells which have been eroded by the wind. Other than swimming, Haeundae Beach is also known for its various cultural events and festivals held throughout the year. Nearby the beach, you can experience playing some traditional games such as neolttwigi (seesaw jumping), tuho (arrow throwing), Korean wrestling and yutnori. This beach is packed with visitors every June to August.

 

2. Gyeongpo Beach, Gangneung

Gyeongpo Beach is a sand bank formed between Gyeongpo Lake and the ocean. This beach stretched out to a length of as far as 6 km and covered with fine sand. It can be said that this beach is definitely one of the more famous beaches all around Korea.

Gyeongpo Beach is most well known for its sunrise and moon rise. Those who enjoy fishing can take a boat to the mall rocks just off the beach. Nearby, there’s the Gyeongpodae and Ojukheon which visitors can see the Korean ancient buildings.

3. Hyeopjae Beach

Located in Jeju Island, the beautiful white sand is formed from large amounts of crushed seashells that have been mixed in with the sand. The seashore stretches for 9 km and seawater is extremely clear. Surrounding it are the lush green forests that gives it a superb background.
Hanrim Park has some interesting tour sites such as Hyeopjaegul Cave, and Ssangyonggul Cave. The seashore to the of Hyeopjae Beach connects to Geumreung Beach, where both combined to be called Hyeopjae Beach.

 

4. Muchangpo Beach

This beach is very well known for it’s mystical path which only appears during summer season. The beach has a width of about 50m and length of 1.5 km, the depth of the water is approximately 2m. The water always stays at a pleasant 22’C.

The parting and appearing of the mysterious path only happens twice a year that extend to about 1.5 km, during the high tide.
