Yeongam Wangin Culture Festival 2016
This festival will run from 04.07.2016 ~ 04.10.2016, that’s only four days but it is worth your time if you wanna know more about the history and culture of South Korea. Remember that it is free of charge to attend this event. The location of the festival is Yeongam-gun which is home to the Historical Site of Dr. Wangin, Gurim Village, Yeongam Pottery Museum, etc.
This festival celebrates the achievements of Dr. Wangin, who travelled to Japan over 1,600 years ago to spread knowledge, culture and art and was a teacher to the emperor of that time. His teachings included the Thousand-Character Text and the Analects of Confucius. Dr. Wangin was highly proficient in teaching writing composition to the Japanese and helped with developing the foundations of education, which had a great influence on some areas of study such as social science, politics, economics, culture, and art.
This festival is set to the background of the beautiful Wolchulsan National Park and Dr Wangin’s life is celebrated with colourful performances and cultural events. A particular point to take note of is that this festival happens when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. While enjoying Yeongam Wangin Culture Festival you can fill up your lungs with fresh spring air. The program isn’t set it stone but expect to have a good time. Festival visitors can indulge in making folk food, play traditional games, make earthenware, and have their photo taken in a Baekje costume.
If you intend to go by bus from Seoul Central City Terminal, then take an intercity bus to Mokpo. From Mokpo Bus Terminal, take a local bus bound for Yeongam and get off at the Historical Site of Dr. Wangin. Bus come around every 20 minutes and the time it takes to arrive at the festival is about 30-40 minutes give or take.
