First Royal Culture Festival : Today, We Meet The Palace
For foreign tourists, palaces are must-thing to see in Korea. From May 2nd, palaces in Seoul become even more special with Royal Culture Festival.
The Royal Culture Festival will be held for 9 days, from May 2 to 10, 2015, at the four major palaces in downtown Seoul, as well as at Jongmyo Shrine and Gwanghwamun square.
The festival offers a glimpse into royal culture with tailor-made programs that suit each individual venue.
Gyeongbokgung palace introduces special space in collaboration with the festival. The Sojubang , a kitchen where special meals were prepared for the king and queen, which was destroyed over 100 years ago, was rebuilt and will be open to the public.
The Sojubang was the setting of the drama “Dae Jang Geum”.
At Changdeokgung Palace and Huwon, visitors can enjoy art activities and book reading within the palace grounds.
At Changgyeonggung Palace, visitors can get a glimpse of finer side of palace lifestyle with beautiful melodies from traditional music performance.
Deoksugung Palace will showcase royal banquets, as well as a Gabi ( a type of coffee) tasting event that was often enjoyed by King Gojong(r.1852-1919).
Jongmyo Shrine will be open late at night during the festival period for a performance Jongmyo Jeryeak(royal ancestral ritual music). Jongmyo Jeryeak is the first of South Korea’s Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001.
